My thoughts on the assignment was that the directions were clear and mostly easy, however when it came to the readings, it was challenging to truly understand what the authors were talking about. Some words in the text were new to me so I had to search them up to get a better understanding. I read the text about three times and it became a little less hard to understand. While reading, the text reminded me of the article we had to read somewhere in the beginning of the semester. I made some connections with those two articles. I liked how we got into groups and was all able to pick 2 of our own questions to answer and 2 slides each to write and present. It made us feel comfortable with the questions we all chose or had more knowledge of. I think the deadline of the presentation came a little to quick because my group did not have enough time to actually come together and share our answers and help each other. Most of us rushed so it seemed a little unorganized but we managed to accomplish this task. I assigned two questions for myself and created two slides. The role that I assigned myself showed some strength because I felt pretty confident in my answers but a weakness I had was becoming very nervous to present my part after all the confidence I had.
My teammates and I somewhat communicated. We mainly communicated before class and the previous day. We created a WhatsApp chat to discuss any problems we had so that we can help each other out. I feel like because we don’t know each other, we felt more comfortable in our own space. Not all of us are on our phones or most of us are doing other things besides school, so we do not see messages until we get back on our phones. So that was a little tricky because the communication was a little delayed. I also think because this is an online class, we do not get to interact with one another like how we would be in a classroom. One thing I did really well on was being more comfortable in speaking in front of new people. Back in high school before COVID, I was very comfortable and confident in presenting with a group or by myself. Now I’m just stick in my own bubble, almost as if I am hiding from the world. I became more quiet and anxious. I took Speech Communications in the spring semester, that’s when I noticed this new change in me and I slowly learned how to come out from it with a little public speaking we did in class. One thing I would like to improve on is reading passages/texts all the way to the end especially if it does not interest me. If I read something that does not interest me, I would either skim through or just read half of it, especially if it has complicated language. A challenge that I faced was my group not communicating well and some having to do their part last minute. I overcame this challenge by focusing on my part and then answering my teammates questions that they had so that they do not feel stuck. At the end our work came out great overall.
I believe the benefit of working with a group that I did not choose the partners was unexpected but it felt good to meet new people and help each other. An advice I would give to the next groups presenting is to not procrastinate and do your assignments last minute. Another advice is to really communicate with your teammates because it is a group project. Do not be afraid to ask for help even if you do not know the people you are working with. An advice for myself for the future is to ask for help when needed and to be more confident in what I work hard on.
